Relaxation-oriented interventions are commonly investigated as separate techniques despite engaging interacting somatic, cognitive, imaginal, affective, and sensory processes. This article develops a multimodal and multisensory framework integrating progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), creative visualization, music-based intervention, and inhalational aromatherapy. Four modalities are organized into three functional stages: Stage I, somatic regulation through PMR; Stage II, cognitive-imaginal regulation through creative visualization; and Stage III, sensory-affective engagement through parallel and optional auditory (music) and olfactory (aromatherapy) pathways. The framework distinguishes evidence supporting individual modalities and constituent mechanisms from the synthesized architecture proposed for their integration. It therefore does not assume that PMR facilitates imagery, that the proposed sequence is therapeutically optimal, or that combined music and aromatherapy produce additive or synergistic effects. Instead, modularity, personalization, participant agency, and multimodal parsimony are treated as central design principles. The model provides a testable structure for dismantling, sequencing, factorial, mechanistic, and moderation studies capable of determining whether multimodal integration offers benefits beyond simpler interventions, which components contribute those benefits, and for whom and under what conditions particular configurations are most appropriate.
